Colorado XR7-G 390 4 spd Project

After changing the plugs, I noticed the PCV connection to the valve cover on passenger side looked goofy…threaded PCV to hose. After looking at the attached thread and the Mansfield Mustang site, I may be missing the brass block/fitting the PCV should thread into. Something else to procure.

Interesting how they split the crankcase gases to be burned and sucked them into each engine bank separately. Between that and the thermactor air injection, there was a whole lot more emissions plumbing than I ever realized for 1968.

I went ahead and replaced the cobbled PCV hose with the correct style elbow & hose, and PCV valve from Mansfield Mustang. I kept the old PCV valve (stamped C7AE-6A666-B) as I didn’t know if it was original or replacement part from over the years…it’s gummed up inside.

Unfortunately, I didn’t grab an additional spring clamp. In looking at the Mansfield site, there are 4 springs clamps, with one of them being a different size (larger). Looking at the spring colors on the Mansfield pic, the hose attached to the smog tube appears to be the larger one.

Try soaking the PCV in a solvent, then apply compressed air to possibly clean it out.

Here’s my G’s setup if you need a reference pic.

Thanks…was able to obtain a couple of spring clips to accommodate the 2 different sizes being used.

Your pic illustrates a different one (reddish tint) connecting to the PCV balance tube…same as what I noticed on the Mansfield site.

The WCCC site linked to a 1" clamp which is too big for this hose.

Bill sells the correct parts. The factory painted them blue with the engine. I don’t know what WCCC sells but it must be the incorrect stuff.

WCCC’s PVC hose isn’t correct either.

I bought my steel line and clamps from Mansfield.

Bill at Mansfield was helpful along with the diagrams on his site with his dedication to the FEs. Im glad he’s in business and mentioned that he’s revamping his web site.

I just reinstalled my C80F-9510-C carb after sending it out to Drew @ afscarbs.com for restoral. I was having an issue with the carb weeping even after replacing the gaskets, and adjusting idle mixture screws had no affect.

Drew does a fantastic job going through the carbs and then installing on his run stand to verify. In my case, he found an issue with the base plate, but was fortunate to have one in stock.

I installed a temp fuel pressure gauge and found it’s pushing 7 psi which may be a bit high.

Haven’t had a chance to take it out yet, but it’s now leak free and seems to rev a bit crisper. I’ll need to pull a plug after taking it out and see how they read.

Don’t know about that and suggest you take it up with the carburetor rebuild guy but your cowl to shock tower braces are installed incorrectly.

Royce. You are THE MAN!!!

Royce,

In checking the shop manual, it shows a range of 4.5 - 6.5 psi so I am a bit high at 7 for fuel pump pressure. The carb restorer recommends and tests to 5 psi. I have a new spare pump, but may leave for now if I don’t see any problems.

Thanks for input on brace…I reinstalled in same position after changing the plugs…didn’t think about it. In looking at the assembly manual, it does show the brace under the cowl, so I’ll swap it around.

My only concern is the taller Shelby valve covers raise the PCV valve / brass elbow, and almost makes contact with the brace. If I put the brace in the correct location under the cowl, the brass elbow may contact the brace. I’ll try and see.

Engine shot of this G at it’s unveiling at Carlisle in 2022.

Interesting that it made it through Don’s ownership with the braces mounted wrong.

Don may think that is the proper orientation.

Until Royce pointed it out, I never knew the correct orientation. This appears to be a fairly common thing after looking at other cars at various shows.

I just pointed it out to the guy with the 67 XR7 I talked to last night. He was just as perplexed. Then I showed my car. And HE said… That makes sense. And if he’d known that… The cowl would have lined up better!!!

I vaguely recall the export brace swap confusing me. This can only be top mounted

Drew has done 5-6 carbs for me. Awesome work

You are still confused. The stock braces only mount under the lip of the cowl.
