Maybe it’s just the picture, but it sure doesn’t look like there’s much leg room if you’re in the back.

Probably has the fronts slid all the way back…mine is that way. Thankfully for the long-legged offspring, I don’t drive with the seat all the way aft!

I’m having the jag leather modified to fit onto the stock cougar seat frame. The shape of the jag seat bottom was all wrong for the cougar and would have created issues with the power top cylinders on the sides.

As for the rear seat legroom, yeah, it’s tight, but that’s with the seats all the way back.

The seats look good and everything seems to be working great so far. On a different post the topic was brought up about having a Cougar with a tri-power set up. Any chance you could snap a picture of your tri power and add it to that topic?
Steven

I see, said the blind man! Very good idea…Would like to bamboozle, errrr…convince, the wife she would look good cruising in a 68 Vert, so, I’ll keep all your solutions in mind!

Geez you just finished the car 3, now you’re gonna cut the top off? Happy Birthday BTW.

Thanks, but, no, not on MY car…on the one she wants, but doesn’t know yet!

(We now return to our regularly scheduled broadcast)

As requested, here are a couple of engine shots. Please excuse the mess. After all, this is still a daily driver.

Thanks for posting the pictures. The engine has a wow factor with three two’s sitting on top.
Seeing that it’s your daily driver how’s the gas mileage?
Steven

I haven’t really noticed any decrease in MPG over the stock 4bbl so I expect my MPG is comparable to a stock j code. The carbs are staged progressively so that most of my daily driving is done with only the center carb. Occasionally, I’ll get into the second (front) carb with a quick start from a stoplight, passing a car or pulling onto an entrance ramp. Number 3 is reserved for those special times when I just need to hear the sound of 6 venturi sucking air to remind myself why I went through all the work converting to 3x2 induction.

Yorgle, before I got too creative, I think I’d just count on pulling the rear head rests off to raise/lower the top. It only takes a second after all. Those Jag buckets look sweet. Also diggin’ on the 3X2’s.

If it were me, I wouldn’t use the headrests in the back. I think they look out of place.

Yeah, I’m not happy about the headrests either, but I don’t like empty holes at the top of the seatback either. I suppose I could try making some short, flatter headrests that wouldn’t stick up so high.

Update on the interior project. The leather for the rear seat bottom arrived this morning and is off to the upholsterer to be made into a custom cover to match the Jaguar pattern. Hopefully my 2-seater days are coming to an end. The kids are getting anxious to rid around with the top down.

The rear seat upholstery is finally done and I think it turned out great. The leather was already tan but not quite a match for the rest of the interior so I’ll have to squirt some dye on it, but here it is installed to test the fit. All that’s left to do for interior work is fabricate some sort of hinge for the flip down center console. Next up: making a boot cover. Stay tuned…

Dang that’s sexy Jody! What did you end up with for the 1/4 interior panels? '69/'70 Cougar or some other year Mustang 'vert ones? I seem to recall you reformed the HT ones initially but what I am seeing now looks much more refined (oh and I see little speakers where ash trays usually are). In any case did I mention dang sexy?

:beerchug:

Bob

The interior 1/4 panels are the plastic 67-68 Mustang repops. I trimmed the bottoms to fit over the rear seat (rather than modifying the seat to fit between the 1/4 panels). The speakers seemed like a good idea at the time, but they’re too small to be heard when driving.

Jody, Mad props go out to you! The interior looks as Bob said “sexy”.
Steven

Jody, excellent work, very fine indeed! It looks like is should and a project/daily driver to boot. That’s not an easy task. Look forward to seeing what the finishing touch with the boot for the top. By the way, with the try power, do you find any more power kick compared to just the 4 banger?

It’s been a while since I’ve posted any updates to my project, so here she is wearing her battle wheels for winter: an old set of 14x6 magnum style wheels from my dad’s old Granada. After cleaning and sanding the wheels, I shot them with some metallic gunmetal grey rattle can paint from Walmart, added trim rings and a set of center caps from a Jaguar (hey, it’s a cat, too). Wrapped them in 215/70/14 snow tires and she was ready to hit the slopes.

Oh, and in response to your question, Cougar2, regarding the tri power setup, I really can’t say I’ve noticed much difference in power compared to the old 4bbl. But the sound of 6 venturi sucking air at WOT is magical.
