Help! - Rarest Production Cougars Video

Hey guys. I’m writing a script for an upcoming youtube video featuring the rarest production Cougars from 1967-1970. I have an idea of each year but I’d like input as to not get the facts wrong. Don’t need more incorrect info being spread.

I found this: Rarest Production Cougars | Mercury Cougar Owners

I’d like to include SCJ cars if the data is available

Anyone have data for rarest paint colors / interior combinations?

1967

  • XR-7 GT 3 speed? 84 built
  • Sunroof production numbers? I remember a thread discussing this recently

1968

  • GT-E R code 4 speed - 1 of 3. All XR-7. How many left?
  • XR-7 G R code 4 speed - 1 of 3. 2 known to exist

1969 - How many 1969 SCJ cougars were built? - The Registries / '69 and '70 428 Cobra Jet Registry - Classic Cougar Community Forum
Convertible -

  • 6 SCJ Convertibles built. 1 XR-7 SCJ 4.30 4 speed (Don’s)
    Hardtop -
  • There were 15 auto SCJ XR-7 based on the above thread
  • 8 CJ Sport Specials, 1 R code surviving

1970

  • Convertible - Std SCJ 4 speed? Any data?
  • Hardtop - Std SCJ non eliminator - 1 of 17? Any know breakdown of auto vs 4 speed?

Hi. I have a 70 std htp with 428scj and 4 speed. Am interested to see how many more are out there.

The 1 of 17 you mention…is that alive today or manufactured?

Thanks.

JR

Sean, in regards to the 3 GT-E 428CJ/4speed, all 3 were XR-7’s.

Correct, there were three XR7-G 428 CJ 4 speeds built.

You need to get Kevin Marti’s book Cougar by the numbers

JR

The 1 of 18 is built cars. 145 SCJ hardtops in '70, 127 of them being Eliminators leaving 18 non eliminators. I know of two, one local in San Diego and another was in Camarillo CA painted competition blue

I have it somewhere, just need to dig it out

I found the numbers for '69 and '70 XR-7 SCJ Convertibles after some digging

6 '69 SCJ XR-7 Convertibles built based on Don’s marti report
7 '70 SCJ XR-7 Convertibles from Mike B

Does anyone know of a SCJ std Convertible? Do any exist?

In 1969 there were 6 scj Convertibles. 5 had the 3.91 axle and one the 4.30 axle which is the one I own. Which happens to be a 4 speed XR7.

Christ, it’s not how many were made - how many are even left? 10-20%?

How about 8 total 69 CJ Sport Specials Built.
4 Q-Codes
4 R-Codes

1 R-Code still known to exist.

Thanks for the info so far. I’ve updated the original post. If anyone has a photo of the cars on the top list that I am authorized to use in the video, please PM me

Still looking for some info on '67 and '70 cars
