The LH window is now in place. It’s not that hard after you have done a couple dozen of them.
First the vent window assembly is placed in the door but without any fasteners. Then the window can be dropped into place and secured to the lifting mechanism with three #8-32 countersunk screws.
To remove the windows I had to first remove the same three screws, all the bolts and nuts from the vent window, and the bolts securing the front and rear stops.
This image shows the oval access hole near the rear of each door where the rear up stop goes. The stop is not adjustable, you must lower the window so you can see this through the hole.
Then you can reach inside the door with one hand holding the stop. Meanwhile your other hand will install the bolt and tighten it with a 7/16" socket and an extension. When you finish the rear stop it looks like this:
Once the main window is set up and down, the vent window hardware can be installed (yellow arrows) and the vent window just goes as far to the rear as possible. - Note I didn’t show adjusting the rear stop for the window in the UP position. It has a couple bolts in the rear of the door. Will snap a picture of that and put it here.
The rear 1/4 window has to be adjusted next. You may find yourself re-adjusting all the windows until you get to a point where they can’t be improved upon.
This is how the lower window in / out adjustment is done. It has a bolt with a integral washer behind the inner door skin. There is a hex hole so you can adjust the window track in or out. When you are happy with the adjustment you tighten the nut which also has an integral washer.
There are two ways to adjust the height of the rear end of the door glass.
This image below shows the in / out upper adjustment that we talked about above with an orange arrow. Below it is a yellow arrow pointing at the bolt that can be loosened to effect height adjustment of the rear of the window.
These are the left and right height adjustment stops. If the window is too high, the window can be positioned where you want it to be, the bolt loosened, and the stop will drop to meet the window. Or if the window isn’t high enough you can loosen the bolt, move the window up, then tighten the bolt.
There is one more height adjustment. The window regulator roller rides in a track which can be raised or lowered. The holes are slotted in the inner door skin to allow this (arrows).
Once you are satisfied with the window adjustment you can install the upper door seal. They are side specific - the rear of each is cut on an angle so it’s easy to figure out which side goes where.
Before the car was painted you pushed the metal around each of the holes so it would be flush right? If not it needs to be done before the seals are snapped in place. With the window rolled down the seal is put so all the clips align.
Last thing today I glued the door perimeter seals in place. There is a seal that goes on the end of the door. One screw (arrow) goes through the door perimeter seal and the door end seal so it is longer. All of the screws are original as is the end seal.
Glass is coming soon on mine so thank you Royce for the detailed installation. It has been three years since I pulled mine apart so I am certain there are parts I have forgotten about.
Thanks! Still working on installing the door panels. I started by laying out 3M strip caulk to hold the rain shields in place. This is the door, the same technique and materials are used in the back seat / rear 1/4 panel area.
This shows the rain shield with the two lower tabs stuck into the slots where they fit in the door. From here I just fold it upwards, being careful to align the window crank shaft and the door handle shaft with the pre - punched holes.
This shows the rain shield in place. I used an X-acto knife to cut around the arm rest mounts. The triangular plate is the mount for XR-7 door pulls, it has to be installed before the door panel.
This is one of the most perfect door panels I have ever seen. The original cardboard backing is intact and none of the holes for the spring clips are torn.
Finished the driver side door today, but have to take the passenger side door apart because occasionally the lock won’t release. Just needs a hair of adjustment I guess.
Finishing up the interior, have some time to kill because the seat belts are still in seat belt jail. Just making sure the front seats are ready to install, the tracks are rusty and one knob is missing from the track adjust lever on this one.
After some cleaning with a fiberglass wheel in a high speed motor they looked pretty good. I wiped them down with wax & grease remover, then sprayed them gloss black.
