You can visit the CCOA website and enter the VIN in the Registry section. There should also be a section where you can ask about tracking down the car.
8R91C510270 is on the database as of 2/1/2018
8R91C510343 is NOT on the database but will be now; would like the left door data code plate information as well as name and address of owner for the database please. Thanks.
Hello
Another newbie here from Nova Scotia. I just bought a 1970 XR7 convertible. It has been in Cape Breton since 2014 with nothing done to it and the owner said he brought it up from Tennessee. The vin is 0F94H541667 but the door tag is peeling so I can’t read it. I believe it is originally white with a med blue interior and I think it is a black top. It has factory air and a 351 2v Cleveland. It also has cruise control under the hood that looks like maybe a dealer install.
Can you tell me if this is registered. I’m ordering a Marti Report asap . Thank you for any help anyone can offer.Dean
For a faster response about any Cougar you can go directly to www.cougarclub.org and enter your VIN and door data plate information. This will go directly to Phil Parcells, keeper of the master registry. You can also add a comment or question asking if anything more is known about your car when you enter the VIN.
Retcbpjp, your best bet is to visit the Cougar Club Registry page. From there you can enter all of your car’s information ~ VIN and door tag data, and anything else you want to share. There is also a field where you can submit any questions you might have about your car and its known history.
Jetblueshark,
You can put your VIN and door tag information into the Cougar Club VIN decoder and it will tell you the basic factory configuration of your car ~ engine, trans, paint & trim colors.
If you are looking for more detailed information about the options that it left the factory with, you can order a Marti Report for about $18. This tells you the VIN and door tag data, and also provides a list of every option that it left the factory with.
Please let us know if you have any other questions, or if there is anything else we can do to help!
Also, when you get a chance, we’d love to see pics and hear more about your cars! Please post in the Classic Cougar Community Discussion section.
From the VIN
1968
Built in San Jose
Standard Hardtop Cougar
302 4V
5588 Mercury built in that plant
This is an early build car, probably has the lower dash pad and no shoulder belts.
J code 302 4V is a great engine. If you put the rest of the door data tag info up we can decode that as well. Hopefully Phil will chime in if this one is in the registry.
This is a car I am considering for purchase, but it has some issues. Tag as I decoded it was originally yellow, but their is over spray of red in truck and under hood. The vin tag in the windshield is not visible, but the car was repainted several years ago and the dash may have been replaced as well and covered it up. I am trying to see if the owner will let me take it apart a bit to see if the numbers match. If he doesn’t I’m walking away. Does anyone have a picture of the vin on a '68 so I have an idea of what I am looking for?
Car is from Northern CA and last titled and plated in 2007.
My big concern is this is a rebody and won’t pass DMV inspection for title transfer to OR.
I have a local expert on Mustangs / Cats who has looked at it with me and advised me well.
Anyone else have thoughts as to what to look for?
