THE BEER THREAD

At 10% ABV you better have the cars in the garage and the pillows just right on the couch before you drink this beer!

Wasn’t Hopslam the cook on Bonanza?

LMAO! Pretty close! I think that was Hop Sing…he pronounced his name Hopslam when he had one too many Arrogant bastard ales!

Sure ordered the wrong beer today at lunch. Got a Stone Double Bastard. Didn’t realize is was gonna be 10% alcohol and a big bottle. Couldn’t even drink it all, since I had to go drive to Home Depot after that and buy and install a toilet. Only drank like half, maybe 2/3. Toilet: procured, installed, and christened!!

NEVER, EVER, DRINK A DOUBLE BASTARD BEFORE INSTALLING A TOILET! WHAT WERE YOU THINKING MAN!? What? You couldn’t settle for the average every day Arrogant Bastard Ale like a normal toilet installer? At least said commode was properly christened!!!

:beerchug:

Next time before I try a new beer I should probably ask about it. I just thought based on the name that it would have to be good. Good, yes, appropriate for the circumstances, no.

So you have to ask yourself…“what is the appropriate beer for proper toilet installation?”

hmmmmmm

maybe an Amber Bitter from Australia…maybe a Dong Da from Hanoi…maybe a Dirty Dick’s Ale from England, but NEVER a Double Bastard from the Stone Brewey in the good ole’ USA!

Odd thing. I have been doing some demolition work on a remodel project. Mostly tearing out sheet rock walls. After breathing that sheet rock dust for a while any beer I drink tastes like crap, but it seems like cheap Coors or Bud actually tastes better than most. Anybody else ever notice anything like that?

Um… how about one of those face mask breather things? To filter the particles out? Dang!

I love fancy delicious beers, but only if it’s like one beer, two beers tops, and generally with a meal. If it’s for while I’m working on something, or if I’m gonna drink 3 or more, I lean towards the standard American crappy beers like Budweiser, Coors (the golden bullet), Schlitz, MGD, etc.

But man, please, if you’re working around dusty air full of any kind of particulate matter, PLEASE wear one of those filter masks. Don’t you ever watch House? All you need is a tiny little mold spore on the drywall to get into your lungs and you can be in trouble.

We have Hanta virus around here… not good for you. First you get really sick and then as soon as you start to feel better… you die.

Bill, a good swish n gargle with some water will take care of that! Best “hot” work beer, hands down, Leinenkugels Summer Shandy…gotta remember to stock up this year. Only problem, seems when I have em, I drink em!

Sol. That might be my first choice for if I was working in heat. It’s like Corona if Corona was 100 times better.

And here i was, planning a visit next week! Dang! Oh well, i’ll just have a beer, and plan some more

Ill agree with Sol, good hot weather beer. Cant beat a Linnies at any time dont matter what it is.

Bill, if you have to add gypsum to any beer to make it tase better, may want to stay away from them.

After being in Germany I got spoiled so I tend to stay away from Bud, Miller & Coors as well unless Im doing beer can chicken.

Thought I’d add “a new dimension” to this thread

Best beer for beer-batter shrimp: Schlitz (Leave it out in the sun for a few days, first. This enhances ‘skunkiness’)

Best beer for boiling white (pork) bratwurst before grilling: Miller High Life in the 32oz clear bottles. Same prep work as the Schlitz for shrimp; except you can get away with only one day in the sunlight. CAUTION: Let it “settle” a little before unscrewing the screw-on cap!!!

No I’d have to disagree - the best beer to cook with hands down - Sam Adams!
Made dough with it for pizzia and bread, Brats, Soup, add tabasco and use it as a marinade for anything, stew ( although Guinness is better for this) and beer can chicken, add it to 1/4 can of pepsi.

I made some amazing beer, cheddar and bacon rissotto with Goose Island Harvest Ale. Any sweetish brown ale will do.

I can’t recommend enough the Founders beers, Dirty Bastard and Backwoods Bastard in particular, they’re sweetish and brown, Scotch ales. Soooo good.

I prefer to avoid dirty bastards myself. But some of them are family and there isn’t anything I can do.
