Are reproduction mounts still available to mount a correct style G mirror on the passenger side?
I noticed someone produced a small run years ago per another old cougar forum, but haven’t seen anything further. From my understanding, the original driver’s side mount won’t work and as they never came from the factory that way, a different one was produced by a creative individual to account for the correct tilt away from the vent window.
I have one but am waiting for someone to share a pair of the correct mirrors. They ussally come in pairs and I only need one. I gave the guy all of the measurements to make them. He is from Wisconsin is all I can remember.
I think he’s looking for a passenger side mirror to go with the passenger side mount he already has.
I was looking for the passenger side mount as they didn’t come from the factory and not available, so somebody made/cast the custom mount on their own…just what I’ve read.
Mirrors appear to be also available from this Site
cougarrand, are you wanting a driver side only mirror, or are you wanting to add a passenger side version? If you are only wanting the passenger side mirror, then you could buy the pair of mirrors from Fusik Automotive (1969 Hurst/Olds Side Mirrors, pair), however, I thought that West Coast Classic Cougar were selling single mirrors and also reproduction mounts for driver and passenger side. After looking, I guess they are not selling the passenger side mounts. Also they are converting the reproduction mirrors to work as a remote mirror, the Fusik versions are not remote.
A couple of decades ago I had a tool and die maker friend make a die to create the mirror mount. I can’t remember if it was driver, or passenger, side. It was never put into production because someone else beat me to it, and I didn’t want to compete.
I went back through the threads, and see stantonxr7 was the user that created these bases. I just messaged him to see if he may still have a passenger side version. I didn’t see any passenger mounts or non-remote mirrors on WCCC.
Royce,
Thanks for confirming the driver’s side mirror works on the passenger side. I’m fine with a non-remote mirror though on the passenger side.
cougarrand,
I’m open to taking one of the mirrors if Fusik only sells in pairs since it appears they work on either side per Royce.
If these bases are no longer available, I have a family member that works in the aircraft side with 3D printing that could potentially take an existing base and scan / print a mount. I could then share the 3D print file. You would have to send me your base to do that, but will have to double check with my brother in law for that.
Royce, they seem to be an exact match to the G mirrors, except that they are not remote. They also do not have a base, as the 69 Hurst Olds and the 69 AMC SC Rambler (Rambler Scrambler) mirrors mounted directly to the top of the door (no extra mirror mount, as needed with the G).
The guy in WI contacted me (found him on eBay from an old listing) and he’ll check to see if he has a passenger side mount on hand, or cast another one.
Once I have that nailed down, I can check on ordering the mirrors from Fusik and then send one off to you. These are the non-remote ones which is fine for me…I never need to change the view.
I believe you mentioned a potential issue if its not a convex mirror. I didn’t see any mention of it on their website. If it doesn’t work as planned, ill have to check with a local glass shop.
For me, it helps with something as simple as backing into the garage.
Ok. I’m waiting on a reply from Fusick on stock and whether the mirror is flat/convex in shape. I probably wont order until I nail down the passenger side mount. I believe they only some in one color, so they will need to be painted.
