EFI, Borgeson steering, headers, exhaust

Catalytic converters have really cleaned up the smog in LA, so they are a necessary evil for modern cars. But there is lots to not like about them: stinky sulfur smelling exhaust, high operating temp, increased exhaust back pressure, added cost, theft risk. I would instead spend that money on high quality mufflers and maybe resonators to get the desired sound.

If the guy is cruising around. cats are ok and no noticeable difference. the fi will help with the gas fumes or a well tuned engine.

Do the Sanderson FC4 headers bolt up the the standard exhaust pipes for a 1970 351C-4V or you have to redo them?

Having rebuilt all but the steering box, I’ve got leak tight factory power steering. It does still has the original play of the non-integral system and too much power assist on the road but it’s quite drivable. Also with a tight front end and the right alignment there should not be an issue with it tracking straight.

Love the 1970 blue CA tag! Is that a state issued vintage tag?

The borgeson kit is made up of “globally sourced components” so that means you get a pump made in China.

Cats will not help the environment they have platinum in them. Google platinum mining.

The sanderson headers will not bolt to a stock exhaust you will have to have that part custom fabricated.

The Chinese made GM pump hasn’t leaked since I instilled it in 2017. The US made and then US rebuilt PS rack and pinion from Unisteer leaked within 2 years until I had it rebuilt. The R&P leaking was a fraction of the leaks from the Ford OEM bits.

These are vintage plates with tags issued under the Year of Manufacture (YOM) program.

The idea came out of this hijacked thread.

Here’s the parts for the exhaust. The Sanderson headers are going to bolt up to a Magnaflow Mustang kit, with my controversial cats in between? What mufflers to be used to be determined. I might want something quieter than the Magnaflows.

My Cougar is not responsible for U.S. deindustrialization and globalization of supply chains. It’s not realistic to keep my Cougar free of Chinese manufactured parts. Borgeson is a storied U.S. company, it assembles and tests in the U.S., and issues a three year warranty. If I want to keep my car straight in its lane without tuna boating, Borgeson and it’s Chinese parts are gonna have to do.

I’m not qualified to judge whether cats with their platinum are good or bad for the environment. They’re not really being installed for the :globe_showing_americas:.

The shop gives every indication it knows what it’s doing with the exhaust installation. I’ll be sure to tell them of your concerns.

My Cougars suspension has been entirely rebuilt, except for the steering box. The steering was very loose. So I had my steering box rebuilt by Chocko Stang. It was a lot better. But it’s still numb and somewhat vague, as I recall from my 1968 GT XR-7 in high school. I wouldn’t look forward to taking Highway 17 to Santa Cruz. I want the steering to be better, so that I’ll never think twice about driving it.

Dan Chock does a great job. If it was me I would feel privelaged.

I extolled of my Dan Chock rebuilt steering box when I got it. Brought me right back to 1970, which isn’t that great.

Where’s the Maier box/kit made? ABS box is I believe from a company in SoCal. KRC pump.

My 1994 Cannondale mountain bike was welded and assembled in the US. Globally sourced aluminum, Japanese components (originally a fishing rod company) put together by an American company, American labor, global sourcing, still ride it today.

My 2019 Cannondale road bike frame was fabricated in Taiwan, and completed with Japanese components manufactured elsewhere in Asia. Cannondale still headquartered in Connecticut, but now part of a Dutch holding company. Final assembly in The Netherlands (by an idiot, so taken apart and reassembled). Still ride it.

I guess the point is quality and geography are not entirely correlatable. Japanese exports became something completely different in the 70s.

And Chinese stuff will leak.

car better be a bench seat

Cannondale example… Taiwan is not China … China is Communist China, Taiwan is Capatalist China…. If your Cannondale was made in “China” China, it will fall apart sooner… (my opinions are my own)…

Your plans are cool, don’t understand the intention to use catalytic converters though…

Some Moog RK parts are made in Taiwan, others China. Difference?

A lot of Apple stuff is coming from China.

Caveat emptor… all I’m saying.

it sounds like your building a cruiser. save money. no headers. this will save a lot of man hrs.

Pypes exhaust, they have one specifically for cougars. purchase without mufflers, pick your own. buy 2 1/4 “ it will be quieter than 2 1/2” .

go efi. but exhaust crossovers must be blocked off or aluminum intake
